St George Utah Temple

Other major renovations prior to the latest included the 1938 modifications to the floor plan and the 1975 major renovation effort, which included another enlargement to the annex and the addition of the west-side staircase. President Spencer W. Kimball rededicated the St. George temple on Nov. 11, 1975, following the previous renovation. Flooring in both the north addition and the historic structure is a mixture of new wood, carpet and tile. The new wood flooring is similar to the historic flooring used in some areas of the north addition. The baptistry has red metaquartzite flooring in the font, lobby and entry vestibule. This stone is quarried south of Las Vegas and supplied by Las Vegas Rock.

Windows have been replaced, matching the historical profiles and details but upgraded to insulated triple panes. No renovation for the state’s fourth pioneer-era temple, the Logan Utah Temple, have been announced. In January 1871, a temple for St. George was announced by Brigham Young, the Church’s first since the exodus from Nauvoo, Illinois, in the 1840s. In November of that year, the St. George site was dedicated, with the cornerstone not laid until March 1873.

Open House and Rededication Announced for the St. George Utah Temple

“Once dedicated, this house of the Lord will join the St. George Utah Temple as the second temple in the city, located in southwestern Utah. First settlers arrived in 1855, when missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ established a mission in the nearby community of Santa Clara,” The Church website stated. And those feelings and emotions can be felt at any temple open house, with Russ and Dana Moody encouraging all to take advantage of such public visits that are available before a temple dedication or rededication. The Cravens said they wanted to help transition their children’s understanding of the temple from being an object and a structure to a house of the Lord with its covenants and ordinances. Russ and Dana Moody are chairing the open house and rededication committee for the St. George temple, with the nine-week open house having concluded on November 11 and the rededication coming up quickly on Sunday, December 10.

During that time, the Church had difficulty locating suitable acreage on which to build a stake center. Mr. Tumber was not in the market to sell, but that changed when he was approached by representatives of the Church. Richardson Design Partnership designed the art glass with assistance from Holdman Studios. The glass’s main design motif is the regionally significant almond blossom.

Smaller items that help a church and events center function were also needed, but they were pricey to purchase on the ministry’s budget. “My wife had just made a list and said, ‘Lord, we need water pitchers, and we need salt and pepper shakers.’ We walked [into the stake center kitchen] and there’s this tray full of 50 sets of salt and pepper shakers. Folding chairs, chalkboards and display stands and cases are a welcome addition to the church’s community efforts. In addition, a decorative stone bench now complements the A.M.E. Church entrance. Solid-wood doors and cabinets from the stake center were given to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, which helps fund the construction of new homes. “We’re probably dealing with 10 or 20,000 dollars’ worth of basic materials, because it’s in really good condition,” said Nicoleti, who estimated the money will help place families into new homes.

Andy Kirby, director of the Church’s historic temple renovations, is excited for people to see the beauty of the renovated temple, which has been updated with a new mechanical system. In October 2018 general conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced the Church’s intention to renovate its pioneer temples, with the St. George Utah Temple the first since to be completed. Renovation plans and exterior renderings were released in May 2019, with the temple closing in early November of the same year. The temple’s previous murals — suggesting a sequence of creation, garden and world — were removed in the 1980s and partially restored in the 1990s. With the recent renovations, three artists were commissioned — one each for the three instruction rooms — to create scenes of southwest Utah’s rugged natural beauty.

Wilford Woodruff recorded that during the St. George temple’s first year of operation, almost 25,000 baptisms for the dead, 12,000 endowments and 3,800 sealings were performed. Visitors of all ages are invited to a free public open house held for most new or renovated temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The open house includes a video (see left) and a walk-through tour of the temple. After the temple is formally dedicated, entrance is reserved for faithful members of the Church.

The general carpet pattern was pulled from early Christian architecture. The green color represents the rice fields and the farming community in the area. The carpet carving design incorporates the almond flower to coordinate with the art glass. The rug designs are reminiscent of an open field of local wildflowers and the California poppy, the state flower. The stone floor consists of Crema Beige (Iran), Emperador Light (Turkey), Inca Gold (Pakistan), Verde Lichen (Iran), Rojo Alicante (Spain), and Vanilla (Turkey) marble.

Media Day Held for the Renovated St. George Utah Temple

Aiding open-house guests inside the temple, placards are used to identify rooms used for different ordinances or purposes — instruction rooms, baptistry, sealing rooms, celestial room, bride’s room, waiting rooms. A public open house will start on Friday, September 15, and continue until Saturday, November 11, excluding Sundays and Saturday the 30th of September, which is general conference. The flooring is new wood, carpet and tile, with the wood similar to the historic flooring used in some areas of the north addition. The baptistry flooring is of red metaquartzite quarried near Las Vegas, Nevada.

The exterior walls were built from another local stone, red sandstone, stacked and grouted together. The two-month public open house for the Los Angeles California Temple attracted 682,361 visitors, who toured the magnificent structure. Walking tours of the temple will be offered daily except for Sundays and Saturday, April 6. Walking tours of the temple will be offered daily except for Sundays. The Red Cliffs temple was originally referred to as the Washington County Utah Temple when President Nelson announced plans in October 2018 general conference for a second temple in the area. Reservations are now available online to tour the newly built Red Cliffs Utah Temple during the public open house, via reservations.churchofjesuschrist.org.

Each volunteer shift was 3.5 hours long, with four shifts of volunteers each day. Altogether, volunteers provided approximately 105,000 hours of service. The ceilings of the historic building were mostly replaced with new plaster and drywall because of the sagging wood floor structure above that required reinforcing. The ceilings of the north addition are painted drywall, with suspended ceiling tiles used in some areas, such as the dressing rooms. The profiles of crown moldings match historic moldings found in the temple. The moldings in the historic temple and the north addition are wood or glass-fiber-reinforced gypsum. On Jan. 1, 1877, sections of the temple — including the baptistry, a second-floor assembly room and an upper-level sealing room — were dedicated by Church leaders, with temple ordinances beginning within the next 10 days. The temple ordinances — old and new — were recorded, reviewed and approved over the next several months.

Church President Russell M. Nelson announced plans in 2018 to build the 38,000-square-foot Feather River California Temple at 1470 Butte House Road in Yuba City. Decorative millwork is used on the altars, the recommend desk, the baptismal font, and the doors leading into ordinance spaces. This again comes from early Christian architecture and is an abstraction of the four-leaf clover. The interior lights are brass, with crystal being added in the ordinance spaces.

Colors were chosen to correspond with the fabrics and represent the local flora. The stone pattern throughout the building references other buildings in the area. The stone pattern around the baptistry is pulled from the art glass designs. A media day is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 11, with special-guest tours to follow through Thursday, Sept. 14.

In November 2005, the Los Angeles California Temple closed for a seismic overhaul and renovation of the baptistry, reopening July 11, 2006—the same year as the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the temple. World War II delayed construction of the Los Angeles California Temple for many years. During that time, plans for the temple were revised to include a priesthood assembly room and to accommodate a unprecedented 300 patrons per session.

President Jeffrey R. Holland, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will rededicate the Church’s longest-operating house of the Lord in two sessions on Sunday, Dec. 10. The St. George temple has undergone multiple renovations since it was originally dedicated in 1877, according to the Church News. It will continue through Saturday, Nov. 11, excluding Sundays and Saturday, Sept. 30, due to general conference.

Where possible, historic wood doors were abated of their lead paint by a certified abatement company, Eagle Environmental Inc., then repainted and reinstalled in their original location. All the new doors are white painted wood to match the paneling and other details of the historic doors. The original hardware did not meet the current building code and was redesigned using historic hardware precedents. New cast bronze and porcelain hardware was manufactured by Rocky Mountain Hardware in Hailey, Idaho. The millwork found in the renovation matches the millwork from the pioneer era. The altars, recommend desks, cabinets and other new millwork are a carefully detailed reflection of what would have been built in 1877.

In the ordinance rooms, the shallow curve of the bowl is in opposition to the vault of the ceiling, representing two complementary elements that complete the circle. The temple grounds are enclosed with a six-foot-tall steel picket fence, powder-coated with a bronze color to match other metal fixtures on the site. Precast concrete pillars are located at the gated entrances to the grounds. The Feather River California Temple was originally announced as a temple planned for Yuba City, California.

The arched windows of the second level and the ordinance spaces depict the almond blossom, representing the agricultural industry of the area. The natural colors of the almond blossom are used against a backdrop of yellow fading to blue. The landscape architect is Loci, with local support from HLA Group of Sacramento, California. The landscape plan is inspired by the mediterranean climate of the Sacramento Valley and the area’s rich history and biodiversity. The design incorporates several mature native oak, redwood, and hackberry trees already on the site. Some prominent features are the 100-year-old olive trees transplanted from a local orchard, which will be arranged in groves both in front of and behind the temple.

These murals were removed in the 1970s and partially restored in the 1990s. New murals were commissioned that capture the rugged natural beauty of the southwest Utah landscape. These murals were painted by Linda Curley Christensen, Keith Bond and David Miekle, each of whom was responsible for one of the instruction rooms.

Previously, the temple ordinances had been passed on by memory and word of mouth since being revealed to Joseph Smith in Nauvoo, Illinois, in the 1840s. ChurchofJesusChristTemples.org shares construction news, photographs, maps, and interesting facts about the temples of the restored Church of Jesus Christ. The veil and celestial rooms historically featured murals that represented the room in the progressive sequence of creation, garden and world rooms.

Los Angeles 'Domestead' home for sale at $2 3 million: See photos

house appraisal cost

The figure that is reached helps determine the taxes due on the property and how to divide the estate equitably. The best way to get a more precise estimate of what a home appraisal will cost in your area is to contact your real estate agent or mortgage lender. Depending on the size of the property, the appraisal could take anywhere from 20 minutes to a few hours. During this time, the appraiser will review the home’s condition and will take photos of the living areas as documentation.

Are online valuations the same as an appraisal?

Unless it is a cash-only home purchase, an appraiser is an impartial third party who can confirm or complicate the deal by providing an evaluation of the home’s value. Lenders rely on professional home appraisals to determine whether the home is at least equal to the value of the agreed-upon price. If you or your agent are aware of recent sales that could be considered in the report, provide them to your appraiser.

Is a home appraisal worth it?

Drive-bys involve the appraiser viewing the exterior of the house and then drawing comps. Mortgage companies will not typically allow these to secure a home mortgage. However, they may use them for other forms of lending, such as lines of credit or a refinance, if you have sufficient equity in your home. Other reasons for a drive-by valuation may be to get a basic valuation of a house in the foreclosure process. That may also mean the cost of buying a home is at a historic high, although property buyers in the 1980s dealt with mortgage rates that were significantly higher than today's loans.

How Often Do Home Appraisals Come in Low?

An example would be if the appraiser did not realize you had put a new roof on the house or that your neighborhood had an amenity center with a pool. These situations are the stuff of nightmares for buyers and sellers alike. If you are desperate to sell and the report comes back lower than the offer, you can always offer to pay more closing costs. If the sellers priced their home too low, they may not recover all the equity they have acquired while owning the property, essentially leaving money on the table. Even though most lenders require an appraisal as a condition of closing on a house, the buyer pays for the appraisal unless they negotiate for the seller to pay instead. Because most lenders won’t issue a mortgage without one, an appraisal is usually a central part of the closing process.

Faster, easier mortgage lending

A home appraiser will take into account visible defects, such as a caved-in roof or an improperly functioning plumbing system, but an appraiser doesn’t search for specific problems. Instead, the appraiser mainly looks for an overall value to assign to the property, without digging for deeper issues that can impact how much you’ll end up spending to repair the home. An appraiser might require a specific type of inspection if there are safety concerns. An appraisal differs from a home inspection, which is a much more in-depth process. In a home inspection, an inspector specifically looks for problems in the home and determines whether certain areas need repairs.

More likely, homeowners and real estate agents may use it to help determine a home’s listing price. If you are listing your home through a real estate agent, the price you have on the house is fairly on point. If this happens, the homeowner can write a letter and ask for an appeal. Keep in mind that this will only work if there is proof that the original appraisal was incorrect.

This is the most common type of home appraisal out there and lenders typically require a URAR before approving your mortgage. Some factors would not negatively affect an appraisal but can leave a bad impression on an appraiser and cause a slightly lower evaluation. While they follow a basic checklist, certain things may make them see your house in a favorable light.

How to Contest a Real Estate Appraisal

This is by far the most common form of house evaluation still used and the one most often required when obtaining a mortgage for a home. With this type of process, there will be a complete onsite evaluation of the home, the property, and the neighborhood to draw an accurate price. Since this is the most accurate and time-consuming type of evaluation, it comes with a higher price tag. During the process, the appraiser collects data on the interior and exterior of the home, including the condition, and compares it with recent sales in the area to determine the value. A home appraisal is conducted by a licensed professional to determine what your home is worth.

Examples include a snow-covered roof or locating a well and septic that aren’t marked on the property sketch. Let’s take a look at the main factors that impact the cost of a home appraisal as well as what to expect from the process. Angi pegs the average cost of a home appraisal at $356, but the National Association of Realtors®’ (NAR) 2023 Appraisal Survey suggests that it’s more like $500. Costs will vary based on what area of the country you live in, the type of home, its square footage, condition, and more.

Or they will end up taking on more risk in the event the homebuyer defaults on their loan payments and go into bankruptcy. In this instance, the lender might not be able to sell the home for the same amount of money it loaned the homebuyer and would lose money. While the average home appraisal costs just $350, several cost factors can drive up that price. Online valuations are best used in the early research stages of buying or selling a home. The free valuations rely on publicly available data and do not consider the home's condition or updates which can greatly impact the home's value. In most cases, the buyer pays for the home appraisal as part of their closing costs.

In a real estate transaction, the appraisal is typically ordered by the buyer’s mortgage lender and paid for by the homebuyer. There are three situations where the lender may order a second appraisal. If it has been three to six months since the original evaluation, the lender will order a second one to ensure no changes have occurred.

Based on the information you have provided, you are eligible to continue your home loan process online with Rocket Mortgage. A professional appraiser’s fees are regulated in part by federal law — the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act — and must be reasonable and customary for the geographic market. Before you have a home appraised, know the four important factors that can affect the cost of your home appraisal. Obviously, upgrading or renovating increases the appraised value of your home when you are refinancing. Making sure the house is clean, well-organized, and free of clutter also helps. The Income Approach Appraisal is generally used for income-producing properties, like rent houses.

Our employees also recycle paper, plastic, aluminum, glass, and plastic bags from offices & break rooms. It all started in 1964 when Nat Dubman began Carol House Furniture. Well, Nat had enjoyed working with his customers while selling for Carol Clothing and Appliances out of the trunk of his car. So it seemed natural when he began to sell home furnishings to call It Carol House Furniture. The second floor comprised two adjoining master suites—his decorated in brown and beige, and hers in blue and white.

Aside from the large his-and-hers dressing rooms, the only obvious sign of Hollywood stardom was Carole Lombard's lavish bath, which featured white-marble walls, wraparound mirrors, and crystal and silver fixtures. The ranch house, which Carole Lombard had renovated while Gable worked on Gone With the Wind, featured a white-brick-and-wood-frame facade, spacious red-brick terraces and a gambrel roof. At the ranch, Gable and Lombard enjoyed unspoiled country living, far from the tour buses that prowled the streets of Beverly Hills, yet still an easy drive to the studios. To reach the property, they drove through the farmland and small ranches that still characterized the western portion of the San Fernando Valley before World War II.

Everything you need to know about 'A Doll's House' on Broadway, starring Jessica Chastain

A second show, titled simply “Gatsby” and directed by the Tony-winning Rachel Chavkin, is due at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Mass., next month, with Broadway seen as its likely next stop. This critic will only say Lloyd’s clever inversion of this legendary stage moment is not only perfect for this A Doll’s House, but a visually stunning, surprising way to end any Broadway show. How appropriate it’s Chastain piloting it—a quintessentially Hollywood ending to a stellar performance. Perhaps best of all is Thornton, whose terminally ill Dr. Rank – he suffers from a lifetime of bad health inherited from a syphilitic father – can’t hide an abiding if inevitably soul-crushing love for the married Nora.

Jessica Chastain

With an acclaimed actress like Chastain making her grand return to the stage, it's an event not to be missed. Experience Ibsen's timeless feminist tale anew by getting tickets to A Doll’s House on Broadway. For the 2023 revival of A Doll’s House, Amy Herzog has adapted Ibsen's script. Herzog is a Pulitzer Prize finalist for her play 4000 Miles, and her other plays include Belleville, The Great God Pan, and After the Revolution. A Doll’s House was written by Henrik Ibsen in 1879, and it premiered in Denmark in December of that year. The show did not premiere on Broadway, however, until 10 years later, in December of 1889.

More suburban theatergoers, who may have more money to throw at shows, now seem to stay home, according to Broadway League data. And producers, who face a financial high-wire act even in the best of times, have made some not-to-subtle calculations. Her face registers the gamut of Nora’s feelings, from nervous forced satisfaction through a waning confidence that her physical beauty will see her through anything. We watch as Nora evolves (or devolves) from the smug superiority she lauds over her broke, widowed friend Kristine through the panic of a law-breaker caught in her own deceptions and, finally, to the scary, thrilling liberation of freedom as nothing left to lose. Nora’s initial willingness to stay just where her husband wants her is crucial to the development of the plot, and Chastain plays it beautifully, her expressions and inflections giving just the barest hints of a deep dissatisfaction.

Chastain told the New York Times that she didn’t want to feel “like a TED talk,” and it doesn’t. If characters are not involved in the scenes, they sit at the edges of the blank stage on chairs. Stripped so utterly of conventional theatrical adornment, it focuses all attention on the words. The ways the characters are miked make their performances even more intimate; we hear their breaths as well as their words.

What days is A Doll’s House playing?

Past Broadway productions have received Tony nominations and wins, however. Though the play as a whole hasn't received many New York theatre awards, it is immortalized as a beloved classic. Even as is, though, the story of a housewife who seeks to build a life beyond her stifling marriage remains inspiring and empowering. Learn about the play's history of productions, celebrity stars, adaptations, and more below before catching A Doll's House on Broadway from February 13 to June 4. Admittedly, the book by playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury and director and choreographer Justin Peck is more of an evolving scenario than a discernible drama.

Post Malone’s all-star Stagecoach set includes Brad Paisley, Dwight Yoakam

She feels betrayed by his response to the scandal involving Krogstad, and she says she must get away to understand herself. She says that she has been treated like a doll to play with for her whole life, first by her father and then by him. Torvald insists that she fulfill her duty as a wife and mother, but Nora says that she has duties to herself that are just as important and that she cannot be a good mother or wife without learning to be more than a plaything. She reveals that she had expected that he would want to sacrifice his reputation for hers and that she had planned to kill herself to prevent him from doing so. She now realizes that Torvald is not at all the kind of person she had believed him to be and that their marriage has been based on mutual fantasies and misunderstandings.

Many of today’s Broadway productions — even the most tantalizingly innovative and impressively executed — are scaled down. Others, such as last year’s revival of “A Doll’s House,” hardly have sets at all. Even as New York theater has survived the pandemic with a parade of productions and attendance near the pre-COVID years’, Broadway has also changed.

Even if “Gatsby” careens quickly offstage, it will have succeeded in reviving a degree of ambition that can sometimes seem relegated to Broadway’s boom-time past. There has been a mad rush to bring “Gatsby” to the stage after the novel’s copyright protection expired and the book entered the public domain in 2021, giving producers a green light to bend it into a musical. The story centers on Gatsby’s efforts to eclipse class differences in his romantic pursuit of the old-money Daisy, who loved him when she was younger but got married while he was away in World War I. Like Jay Gatsby as he woos his former lover, Daisy, the production team behind “Gatsby” plainly spared no expense in its drive to deliver 150 minutes of razzle-dazzle to theatergoers. But in seeking to channel the glitz, glamour and grandiosity of New York’s roaring 1920s, a musical adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel “The Great Gatsby” has bucked the recent trend.

“Illinoise,” a hallucinatory dance musical based on Sufjan Stevens’ 2005 concept album “Illinois,” offers a fitting end to a Broadway season that seemed happiest when operating beyond conventional assumptions and practices. Herzog also writes totally original plays not based on Scandinavian classics, and one of those, “Mary Jane,” won the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play in 2018. On Tuesday, that play had its Broadway premiere at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, and stars Rachel McAdams in her Broadway debut. “Each one of them is uniquely opulent,” Marc Bruni, the show’s director, said of the sets, before clarifying, “and not opulent when it needs to be,” such as in the rusted-over Valley of Ashes. Among the musical’s 42 scenes are trips to Gatsby’s gilded and labyrinthine Long Island mansion, a downtrodden and industrial Valley of Ashes in eastern Queens, and a flowery cottage that serves as the setting for Gatsby and Daisy’s reunion.
